Ingrédients
1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
5 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for topping)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Maple syrup, for serving
Préparation
1. Generously butter a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange the bread.
2. Whisk eggs, half-and-half, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
3. Pour custard over bread and press gently.
4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes after adding butter and sugar.
6. Caramelize the sugar topping with a torch or broiler.
7. Serve warm with maple syrup.
